This PowerPoint template is an aid for developing unit level HAZCOM training. Each slide represents a required training element. Create additional slides to complete those required elements. Develop additional slides as necessary to provide unit specific HAZCOM information to your employees. Depending on the number of processes and chemical substances in use at your unit, a different presentation structure could be more effective at covering all the required elements clearly. Ultimately the unit is responsible for ensuring that HAZCOM training is comprehensive to the unit’s operational scope, and in compliance with OSHA standards. This template only provides a suggestion. Organize unit training as you see fit. Delete this slide when finished. (Template provided as a linked download in CGTTP 4-11.5 Hazard Communication Program)

HAZCOM Training Enter unit information here including HAZMAT Officer POC

HAZCOM Requirements OSHA Standard 29 CFR § 1910.1200 requires employers to develop a Hazard Communication (HAZCOM) Program which includes : – The preparation and implementation of a written hazard communication plan. – The identification and inventory of all hazardous chemicals in the workplace. – Proper labeling of workplace chemical containers. – Readily available and updated Safety Data Sheets (SDS) in the workplace. – Employee training.

HAZCOM Plan, Chemical Inventory, and SDS Provide the location of the HAZCOM plan, Chemical Inventory, and SDS. Remember that this information is required to be readily accessible to the worker in the workplace. If the unit workforce is distributed across different locations, each location is required to have SDS for the chemicals in use at that location.

GHS Labels and SDS Provide a refresher to the annually required GHS training on CG LMS. Use Appendices B and C from CGTTP 4-11.5 HAZCOM Program for supporting information.

Workplace Labeling Use the workplace labeling procedures in CGTTP 4-11.5 HAZCOM Program.

Unit Operations Using Hazardous Chemicals Develop this slide block to detail the operations where hazardous chemcial substances are being used.

Workplace Hazards Detail the use and storage locations of all hazardous chemcials in the workplace. Describe the specific hazards of each chemical used in the workplace. Provide any physical, health, asphyxiation, combustible dust, pyrophoric gas, carcinogenic, and any other hazard associated with chemicals in the work spaces.

Detecting Potential Hazards Describe in this block the methods and observations that can be used to detect the presence or release of a hazardous chemical in the work area (such as monitoring conducted by the employer, continuous monitoring devices, visual appearance or odor of hazardous chemicals when being released, etc.). NOTE: It’s also possible to do this specifically for each chemical, in which case this section is not necessary.

Employee Protection Insert measures taken to protect employees Describe engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment are in place.

Emergency Procedures Describe in this block what to do in case of chemical emergencies. Include emergency contact information as well as immediate response procedures.
