WHO WOULD BE THE TARGET AUDIENCE FOR YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT? Daly Farrington

Core Audience Sports TV Programmes/ Films Restaurants Spare time Both Gender Adults 30 -50 Music

Following from the character diagram about the potential core audience for this film I believe the main audience would be for mix gender middle aged people. As Windmill View is based around a murder and has a very twisting plot, I believe this would appeal to an audience who enjoys crime thrillers such as Sherlock Holmes. The film would also appeal to an audience of middle ages, for example between 30 to 50. I believe this is because teenagers would more likely go to a mainstream cinema and see a more action type film with special effects with there friends rather than concentrating on a challenging narrative. Finally I believe the film appeals to both male and female audiences as the film doesn’t specifically gear towards one gender as a romantic comedy might for females like 500 days of summer for example or vice versa for men with action movies like Total Recall. Core Audience

I believe the niche audience to the film would have interests such as reading, especially crime and thriller novels such as the “Da Vinci Code”. However unfortunately there isn't a film the book is based on for example Harry Potter to increase the fan base, already there. I imagined the core audience for “Windmill View” to be interested in movie sites such as Netflix, which specify in offering films to suit very specific genres and also to visit the Duke of York cinema as it is an “Art House Cinema” so therefore would show more specific genre films. I believe the core audience for crime thrillers is building after the success of films such as Girl with a Dragon Tattoo and Sherlock Holmes, and this may expand the core audience. However as this would be a low and new budget film, the interest in a specific cast member or director would be low as they are not well named such as certain directors like Steven Spielberg. Niche Market

Who is your target audience and why; for example most thrillers have a complex narrative, would this limit the potential audience? The reason I believe the core audience would be older is because like most thriller films, Windmill View has a very complex narrative and plot and this means that people who will concentrate heavily on the film will more likely to enjoy it and be attracted to going to see the film. Because of this I wouldn’t expect many young kids or teenagers to enjoy the film as they would find it challenging to understand and also they would be more interested in the special effects you may expect in the cinema which our film wouldn’t have as it is low budget. As well as this I could imagine many of the audience viewing the film twice in the cinema because once they had realised the massive twist for the ending, the viewer would want to see the clues they had missed the first time round, therefore improving the box office appeal. Do you think that your thriller is likely to appeal to a male or a female audience more, or do you think that it would have the same appeal to both male and female audiences? I believe the thriller film “Windmill View” could be a massive hit for both genres as it doesn’t cater for one genre over another. A good example of this is that some films such as Romantic Comedies, only cater for one gender (women) rather than both and vice versa for gory action films such as Rambo. However Windmill View is suitable for viewing by both genres as it is not to gory, and women can enjoy the drama and the plots in the film as well, similar to the Bourne Trilogy.

What other Thriller films are similar to yours and how did they attract their audience? Many films and TV programmes have since made the niche genre of Crime Thrillers a lot more popular such as the Bourne trilogy, the Da Vinci Code and Sherlock Holmes. These three films gives you the idea about how they have captured the audience by using comedy, big name actors and action in there films to create a solid core audience which now exists. I believe the film Windmill View could follow the likes of the films spoken about to branch out to many different niche markets to attract a bigger audience to the film. What rating would you give it and why? I would give this film a 15+ rating because there will be some level of gore in the film to show death scenes as well as swearing and sexual references. Although all the scenes wouldn’t be very graphic it still wouldn’t be justified to show younger teenagers the content involved as it would give them a bad impression. Finally it would be irresponsible to show children under the age of 15 this film as it does include drug and alcohol references which may influence Children's behaviour which is wrong.
