4 NHSC Cycle 1 Open Time Proposal Planning Workshop 3-4 June 2010 NASA Herschel Science Center - page 4 PACS Duplication Policy http://herschel.esac.esa.int/Docs/Herschel/pdf/Duplications_v1.0.pdf “In general, two observations are considered to be potential duplications if they are executed on the same position of the sky and covering the same spectral region” –“same photometric filter for imaging” –“same spectral line/range for line/range spectroscopy” –Both observations are performed with the same instrument and AOT –See document for PACS/SPIRE parallel mode observations UNLESS –“The areas in the sky covered by two proposed imaging observations do not overlap by more than 25% of either of the fields/areas being compared” –“The integration time per area of the sky for each observation differs by at least a factor of 4 (corresponding to a factor of 2 in sensitivity”

5 NHSC Cycle 1 Open Time Proposal Planning Workshop 3-4 June 2010 NASA Herschel Science Center - page 5 PACS Duplication Policy UNLESS (cont’d) –“The spectral range covered by two proposed spectroscopic observations do not overlap by more than 25% of either of the spectral ranges being compared.” –In the case of line/range spectroscopy the integration time on the same spectral line/range differs by at least a factor of 4 (corresponding to a factor of 2 in sensitivity) EXCEPTION –“One natural exception to the above policy are observations of time-variable phenomena.” Instrument/Mode –AOT Release status –http://herschel.esac.esa.int/AOTsReleaseStatus.shtml
