It took multiples presidencies for Texas to become a part of the U.S. as a slave state.
Mexico was furious!

President Polk believed that war with Mexico would increase the land of the United States.
The United States went to war with Mexico and pushed all the way to Mexico City.

6. America Claims the Spoils of War

Mexico agreed on the Rio Grande border with Texas and ceded New Mexico and California to the U.S.

The purchase of the land south of the Gila River for $10 million
