Old Strategies aren’t working. O Immigration Act of 1986: O beefed up border controls, O made it illegal for employers to hire undocumented immigrants, and O required employers to confirm the legal status of their employees. O Those immigrants before 1982 were granted immunity.

O Amnesties and Foreign Worker policy won’t fully stop illegal immigration but it’ll make it smaller. O “Enforcement only” ignores the fact that the U.S. has an increasingly integrated labor market with Latin America.

Secure America O A draft to fix the broken immigration system. O Enhanced enforcement to ensure the reformed immigration system if effectively policed. O Widened legal channels for the future flow of workers and families.

Keys to Make Admission prcoess: Realistic, Controlled, and Workable O To provide enough visas for the expected future flow of workers and families. O To avoid the exploitation and abuses of old- style guest worker visas a year and increasing family reunification visas so that the current illegal flow will be funneled into a legal one while being fair to those from around the world

It does have drawbacks… O The bill doe not adequately address the acknowledged long-term solution to the migration challenge: economic development in sending nations and communities.

Facts O Current laws do not match the current needs of the nation. O Some employers say that immigrants are willing to work jobs that American citizens will not. O There is no data that shows immigrants are any more likely to commit crimes than citizens.

O people are looking for better opportunities and a higher quality of life than they would have in their native countries. O Undocumented workers can be found in the agriculture, construction and hospitality industries performing tasks that only the most desperate American would consider.

O Billions of dollars have been appropriated in an effort to remove undocumented immigrants by any means necessary. O Legalization would allow this group to contribute to the economy through taxes. O It's morally wrong to punish a person whose only motivation for immigration illegally is a better life for themselves and their family
