2 Good Morning 3- 19 -2015 Step 1: Please grab your notebook, a copy of The Catcher in the Rye Step 2: Start a fresh page, date it and title it Journal Explain how it is possible for Holden to hate Stradlater’s guts yet still think he’s a pretty nice guy. Justify your analysis with evidence from the story.

4 Themes of Catcher in the Rye Loss of Innocence Fakes in the Adult World The Pain of Growing Up Isolation as a Form of Self-Protection Holden must face that fork in the road of adolescence when one realizes that maturity entails a loss of innocence—that greater knowledge of oneself and others and the circumstances all comes with a price.

8 Catcher in the Rye Journal-3 Entry 1: Begin your “Personal Observations/Reflection” portion of the journal project by answering the following questions in your journal tonight. -You will find out soon that Holden spends a lot of time describing his kid sister Phoebe in quite a bit of detail. So In your journal, write about one of your brothers or sisters in a lot of detail like Holden. Or if you are an only child, describe a friend like this. Take time to watch them and look at their behaviors and features and see if you do anything similar. Sometimes it is spooky how similar you are to your sibling….
