2. Biography (June 5,1883-April 21,1946) John Maynard Keynes was a British Economist. Keynes was born in Cambridge, England. He attended Eton on a scholarship but left for King’s College Cambridge to study mathematics. Before graduating he was a member of many clubs including the ‘University Cambridge Liberal Club’. Keynes published his first economics article in 1909 and in 1911 was made the editor of the Economics Journal. In 1913 he published his first book Indian Currency and Finance.

3. Ideas And Influences John Maynard Keynes ideas have been a central influence on modern macroeconomics. His ideas revolve a mixed economy with a majority in the private sector but a large role of the public sector. Keynes argues that private companies can make poor decisions that result in inefficient outcomes. The government then has to step in and take control of how their money is managed. During the 1930’s, Keynes lead a revolution that changed the ways people thought about traditional economics. Workers were now offered full employment as long as they were fair in their wage demands. After WW2 these ideas were adopted by most western economies. By the end of the 1960’s almost all capitalist governments had adopted the ideas of Keynesian economics. During the recent recession political leaders such as Barack Obama, and Prime Minister Gordon Brown, have based their economic policies on Keynes ideas.
