Table of Contents 1. Changing attitudes towards same-gender marriages 2. Article 1 3. Article 2 4. Increasing popularity of Same-Sex Marriage in society 5. Government’s Role 6. Conservative vs. Liberal views on the subject 7. Conclusion

Changing Attitudes towards Same-gender Marriage Many years ago, same-sex marriage was just a taboo term. People were scared of the unfamiliar Laws were passed to protect people against discrimination More people came “out of the closet” because they felt more safe It is more common for people to know or be associated with someone who identifies themselves as being gay

Article 1  CNN contributor, Ben Brumfield, stated attitudes towards same-gender marriages have increased over several decades.

Article 2  Lisa Shapiro concludes that attitudes of Americans’ have changed dramatically.  Poll stated 60% of people had a family member or close friend that was gay.  Close relationships is the number one reason for attitudes shifting

Increasing popularity of same-gender marriage in society  It is one of the biggest topics in politics and legislation today.  Proposition 8 was an example of this issue coming to the forefront of political debates and social curiosity  President Barack Obama was the first President of the United States to endorse same-sex marriage

Government’s Role  Government created by our forefathers to protect our rights and liberties as human beings  That the single most important thing the government should do, is secure the rights and freedoms of individual citizens  Man is superior to government and should remain master over it, not the other way around

Conservatives vs. Liberals on the issue Conservatives  Many conservatives deem same-gender marriage as unconstitutional  There shouldn’t be any law passed to support it Liberals  Laws that are passed against same-sex marriage go against their constitutional rights as human beings

Conclusion  Government was setup by the people for the people, and that’s how it should always be. I believe that our government has more important things to worry about, like our economy and job growth. I don’t think the federal or state level government should be wasting their time on regulation of relationships and marriage. If same-sex couples getting married will hurt my family and me or violate my freedom, then I will gladly admit that marriage needs to be regulated by government. I doubt that day will come
