2  A lot of people believe you don't have to go to school to live a fulfilled life. There are many people around the world that live long delightful lives without being able to read or write. However, in the fast paced world we live in today Education has become a bridge that divides those who can and those who can't. Thus in order not to fall into the category of people who can't, this is why it is very important that we get an education. Hence, similar to your country, South Africa also has a programme that keeps children in school.  Education helps to reduce unemployment because companies of today are only interested in hiring professionals. Without an education it is impossible to find a decision-making job like a lawyer or a doctor. This is why the government is so eager to keep children in school.

3  South Africa has 12 million learners, 366 000 teachers and around 28 000 schools - including 390 special needs schools and 1 000 registered private schools. Of all the schools, 6 000 are High schools (grade 8 to grade 12) and the rest are Primary schools (grade 1 to grade 7).  A learners schooling career spans up to 13 years although, grades 10, 11, and 12 (matric) are not compulsory.  Our government advises that our learners complete their matric year because this will give you the advantage of higher education.
