AGENDA B. Discussion of Planning Process

Process & Our Status In It Initial Data Collection, Mapping Identification of Issues and Concerns Scenario Development Policy Assessments Public Engagement Scenario Refinement Analysis of Impacts and Effects Cost Estimates Visualizations Validate with the Public & Stakeholders Validate with Officials Draft/Review Cycle Final Report & Deliverables

AGENDA C. Creating the “Currents” and “According to Plan” Scenarios

The “Currents” Scenario What it is… The “trend” scenario which takes into account recent historical patterns of development and applies them to undeveloped or underdeveloped land. Influencers… Major push in Hoke County to convert agricultural and very low-residential lands to residential subdivisions. Location of supporting infrastructure Roadside development patterns occur in vicinity of Fayetteville Bypass (Cumberland)

The “According to Plan” Scenario What it is… This scenario adjusts the “Currents” scenario by considering what is contained in local land use plans and policies. Influencers… Removal of commercial development in protected “swath” along the Fayetteville Bypass Expansion of Industrial Lands More neighborhood development “nodes” at important rural intersections

D. Creating the “All for One” Scenario

The “All for One” Scenario What it is… The “All for One” Scenario is what will try to optimize in the coming months. It will have several alternatives resulting from adjustments to both land use and transportation comments. Influencers… Currents and According to Plan Scenarios Public, MPO Staff and this Committee’s Inputs Effects on Adjacent Land Uses (Compatibility) Best Fits for Infrastructure Protection of Preservation Areas

The “All for One” Scenario 1.Think about each grid cell on the map 2.Consider most appropriate land use for it 3.Assign land uses with building blocks 4.When you’re done we’ll talk about it and take some pictures for use in building this scenario Getting Your Input Think Lego’s are just for kids? The item at left is a time-tracking system using blocks to represent days of the week and 15-minute increments of time; the middle image is a house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright (Falling Water); and the person on the right is participating in one of the many Lego competitions conducted annually and worldwide.

Getting Your Input These are the ways to think about the blocks (This is also on the last page of the agenda along with some helpful hints on how to get through this exercise in good shape)

E. Next Steps

Next Steps… 1. Prepare Impact Assessment of Scenarios 2. Initiate Transportation Solutions that Complement Each Scenario 3. Build Transportation Networks, Identify Hot Spot Issues, and Prepare Recommendations 4. Questions or Ideas???
