2 NanoMend aims to pioneer the research & development of in-line, micro scale defect detection systems on thin-films, which will transform the performance of a range of products including coated fibre-based packaging. 8 What counts as a defect? Stray particle contamination (polymer fiber or metallic) Thickness variation within thin (nano or micro) layers. Density variations within polymer layers. Micro or nano-scale holes within the polymer layers.

Increase the speed of systems that currently have a good resolution.
