4 Encourage your child to apply… We are looking for members to join the newly formed Student Library Advisory Committee (SLAC) Application deadline, Monday, September 22 Click here Click here or look for the link on the Library’s home page.

5 Databases vs. Googling Research Smackdown Databases are collections of previously published, often peer- reviewed (vetted) sources of information Like text books and reference books, the purpose of these sources is to support student learning through their layout and use of indexing Librarians carefully review and select databases to purchase Students will be required to use these types of scholarly sources in college Can be a good starting point for overview of topic but not necessarily sources. ANYONE can create a web site and post ANY information, factual or not. Many sites lack information necessary for Works Cited, a requirement for research projects and papers. Google isn’t necessarily structured to support student learning.

6 DATABASES ARE THE CLEAR WINNER! MHS Library Database Link http://www.madisonpublicschools.org/site/Default.aspx?PageID=983
