Unit 1 – Improving Productivity Bradley Cogin Instructions ~ 100 words per box

1.1Why did you use a computer? What other systems / resources could you have used? I used a computer because I could get loads of resources and information off the internet. I also use a computer so I can connect it up to a whiteboard and then I can present it to a class. I thought that if it was on computer it will be very clear and if it was my handwriting it wouldn’t be as clear. The other resources could be using paper for notes or you can use whiteboard to plan the presentation. I can use a flip charge to plan it or even do it on the plan chart.

1.2What skills did you need to learn in order to use PowerPoint? You will need to know how to put audios and videos and pictures on your slide and how to time your slides. When I do the slides I want it to look good so I use backgrounds and I use animations and hyperlinks so my presentations are looking good. Importing my pictures and my writing also the font size of my writing. I can change my font to bold, italic and underline my writing. I can change the layout of my PowerPoint so it looks organize. I can move my font to the middle of the slide or the sides.

1.2What resources did you need to make the presentation successful? When I put in audio sound and I put pictures in my slides it made it more interesting and better. When you had more information and more pictures. I use hyperlinks so my presentations look cool. I needed my text to be the right size at the right moment just like when I use a title I have bold writing and when I'm writing a paragraph I use size 12- 18. I used different coloured back grounds to make my slides look pretty. I organised my paragraphs to the centre and I can move them to the sides. I used transitions to make my paragraphs look a lot better.

1.4What factors might have affected how well you completed the presentation? (e.g. time / attendance / knowledge of software) When you have a it lesson on the day you are not in then you make your self behind and you will need to catch up. If you did not enjoy it people wag there lessons and try not to come in. if you are really lazy and get distracted to easy that will not help when it comes to your exams. If you are late to the lesson you can miss time on your course work or your exams and if can downgrade your grade. You will need to concentrate more because if you are talking to your mate then you will not be able to catch up.

1.6Why did you use PowerPoint to make your presentation? What other software was available? Why did you choose not to use them? I used PowerPoint because it makes your work more organised and it is a lot better for more information. I could of used Microsoft word because I can get a lot of information on it and I can get pictures and more information. I can use Microsoft publisher because I can fit a lot of information on the programme. I can change the size of my font and make it bold, italic and underline it. I can make the size from 1 to whatever I want. I can move the size of my charts so they are unique and looks like I created it my self.

1.7Were there any legal constraints or local constraints that changed the way you created your presentation? (e.g. copyright, file sizes, AUP) When I was uploading my PowerPoint on to the website I had a limit of 32mb that’s a restriction on what I could of put on my slide just like more videos, sounds and pictures. Couldn’t use copyright because of the school wouldn’t pay for the pictures. You will need to have permission for copying for pictures and if you want to make money you might have to share it with the owner of the picture. If you went up to a photographer and asked them for a picture that would be fine but if you copy right that isn’t unless you have permission.

2.2Which tools within PowerPoint made it appropriate for your presentation? The tools I used was the size of my text and the size of it. The size of my text was 12 on every slide and my titles are bold and all of my writing is in the middle of the page. I used my animations in the slides and I hyperlinked them all to make my presentation look cool. The way I lay out my presentation is a title at the top of the page and I have my writing in a big box below it or I have it in the notes if I won’t to write a load of information. When I did my slides thought it would make it interesting my adding sound audios and pictures, it made my presentation look professional and really interesting.

2.4What improvements do you think you could do to your presentation? I could make a lot more improvements to my slide just like adding more pictures in, I added some pictures but not a lot of pictures to my slides. I made a lot mistakes like when I added in pictures to the wrong slide and now I can improve on the next time. Some times on my presentation the writing changes from 12 to 18 size. I need to notice next time I need to keep my font the same size. I could add more audio and videos with sound so it makes it a lot more interesting and more people to look at my slides so then it stands out.

3.2What improvements do you think you could have done to improve your work rate? (keyboard shortcuts, file names & locations, backups, work after school, templates, planning) If we had more time after school we could of probably made it a lot better, also maybe if we had templates to use or other PowerPoints to refer to and improve on them this would of helped a little bit. Maybe if we planned before going straight into we could of made it better because we would of knew how to make it better. We could have had more videos and sounds so it makes it more powerful. If I added more pictures and my font was better and more titles to make my slide more outstanding and better.
