Faith in Hebrews The object of our faith is Jesus 3:1 He is divine, greater than angels ch. 1 He was made like us, a little lower than the angels ch. 2 Jesus was a faithful son 3:1-6 Moses was a faithful servant 3:5 Faithfulness was a testimony of those things which would be spoken UNBELIEF = DISOBEDIENCE 3:7-4:13; 3:12,18-19 FAITH = OBEDIENCE

Faith in Hebrews Today, if you hear His voice…” Faith comes by hearing God’ word Rom. 10:17 What if we hear and not obey? 4:2 Not mixed with faith -> haven’t entered rest We who have believed -> do enter that rest v.3 Faith and diligence are inseparable v.11 Faith is a fundamental principle 6:1; 11:6 Faith is shown by diligence 6:11 Faith is shown by patient endurance 6:12

Hb 11:1 Faith is real substance also in Heb. 1:3 Unseen word of God -> seen worlds v.3 Faith in unseen -> must be seen v.4-40; Romans 12:2

Evidence (ELENGCHOS) “proof” legal term Verb form in John 8:46 Which of you convicts Me of sin? Terms must be understood in their context in 10:34-39

Hebrews 11 Look for these words: see, testify, promise Evidence of things not seen v.1 The elders obtained a good testimony v.2 things which are seen were not made of things which are visible v.3 Abel…obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts…v.4 By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, "and was not found, because God had taken him"; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God.

Hebrews 11 Look for these words: see, testify, promise They saw a beautiful child v.23 He looked to the reward v.26 He endured as seeing Him who is invisible v.27 Obtained promises v.33 Obtained testimony through faith v.39 Since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses…let us run 12:1 Looking unto Jesus 12:2 You must finish the race to obtain the prize
