1 IETF-61 – Washington DC Path Computation Element (PCE) BOF-2 Status - CCAMP Co-chairs: JP Vasseur/Adrian Farrel ADs: Alex Zinin/Bill Fenner

2 Reminder of the scope of the Potential PCE WG Specify a set of mechanisms for PCE-based path computation of MPLS Traffic Engineering LSP in the context of specific application  No intent to come up with a new Inter-domain routing paradigm  Scoped applicability to a limited number of TE LSPs  Scoped applicability to a ‘simple’ topology of ASes or areas

3 Summary of previous BOF in San Diego: - Clear statements of requirements from many providers (Infonet, KDDI, AT&T, FT, NTT, MCI) Several distinct problems being solved –Shortest inter-area/AS/SP TE LSP path –Diverse path computation (intra and inter domain) –Complex constraints and sophisticated computation requirements Common theme is MPLS TE LSP path computation - Recap different perceived requirement spaces by summary of existing drafts

4 Objectives Examine proposed architecture (draft-ash-pce- architecture-00.txt)  comments received to provide a global picture of the architecture highlighting interaction between elements,  No standardization of the architecture itself !  Elaborate on the definition of “distributed path computation”  … Next rev will be posted on the list.

5 Objectives (Cont) - Agree on the propose charter & Milestone Several comments for clarification of the charter: - requirements may come from other WG such as CCAMP chartered for inter- domains, - no need for specification of algorithms but the outcome of the algorithm, - clear exclusion of protocol extension (LDP, …) - …  Proposed updated charter will be sent to the list early next week Conclusion: (Alex) Who believes the WG should be chartered? Many in favor, none against  We’ll take this to the IESG and work on the proposed BOF charter
