Technology Integration Project By: Devin McCullough Kara Forbus Lesley Smith Susan Evans

ABC Storybook Recommended for emergent readers and ELL students. Used in Reading and Language Arts. Fourth Grade students created this storybook for early elementary students.

Overview of Activity Students created a PhotoStory of the alphabet and objects that represent each letter. The PhotoStory included narration of each slide. Then it was shown to emergent readers to practice letter identification and beginning sounds.

Instructional Procedures: 1- Students select objects that begin with each letter of the alphabet 2- Pictures are taken of the students holding the letter and object. 3- Using pictures student will create a PhotoStory for the emergent readers to watch, including voice narration. 4- The emergent readers watch the story and name letters and objects.

Beneficial Aspects of Activity: Benefits for students creating the project: This project incorporates technology in the classroom and learning to work as a team. They familiarize with the use of a digital camera and PhotoStory software. These are both skills that are in demand in the twenty first century and will help prepare students for increasingly challenging assignments as they continue with their education career. This can also build self esteem while helping younger children learn. Benefits for students watching the project: Instead of watching a teacher say the words of the alphabet; this is a more engaging way to learn the alphabet. They are seeing familiar people, places, and things and making real world connections to the alphabet. Benefits for the Teacher: This project can be used as a learning center. The project can be used an independent practice and repetition exercise as the teacher teaches in small groups. Teachers in upper grades with English language learners can utilize the PhotoStory as a vocabulary development tool. These same students could even create their own PhotoStory while using ours as an example to demonstrate newly acquired vocabulary.

Ready, Set, GO!!! You have been provided with a piece of paper. You are going to be given one minute to write down the alphabet and an object that goes with each letter. Let’s see how you do!
