2 Directed Reading Lesson Plan According to the model presented in Chapter 2 of your text, Putting it All Together Include: Class description (grade level, subject, number of students, other characteristics of the class and of the curriculum for the year); unit topic; unit goals; lesson objectives; performance assessment; reading type; macrostructure thinking skill for reading; materials list.

3 Directed Reading Lesson Plan You will write, in as much detail as is shown in the multiple examples in Putting it All Together, the Procedure for the lesson, according to the outline presented in the text: Readiness: Motivation: Tapping and Developing Background of Experience Concept Development Purpose-for-Reading Silent Reading : Discussion: Rereading: Follow-up (Reinforcement):

4 You should have submitted your Directed Reading Lesson Plan to your peers for review in Unit 5. The final draft of your Directed Reading Lesson is due at the end of Unit 6, and will be evaluated according to the Grading Rubrics found in the Course Home. Directed Reading Lesson Plan

5 Thematic Unit 5 Day Reading Unit in the Content Area Lesson Plans Part 1 – Complete the 5 Day Lesson Plan Chart (found under Major Assignments). National literacy standards NCTE/IRA Standard Pre-Reading Motivation and Graphic Organizer (include in appendix) Describe concept development and vocabulary building activities Instructional Methodology Describe the directed reading activity and comprehension strategies used. Questioning: Bloom’s Taxonomy - What level questioning was used. Provide at least 2 examples. Describe Differentiated Instruction for different Learning Modalities. List Modality and described activity. Assessment Tools - Describe an assessment tool for each lesson. Diagnostic, formative, or summative assessment used to measure students’ proficiency. (Use Appendix for rubric submission of 1 assessment.) Reflection: How did this lesson improve student reading proficiency?

6 Part II. Reflective Summary At the end of your thematic unit, attach a 3-5-page analysis explaining the decisions you made. Use your readings for this course to support your decisions. Thematic Unit 5 Day Reading Unit in the Content Area Lesson Plans Your Thematic Unit is due at the end of Unit 9. It will be evaluated according to the criteria in the Grading Rubrics.
