2 11 TASK FORCE GOAL To develop an expanded data framework, including non-traditional indicators and aligned data tools to support a full-service community school district and the needs of the whole child. Opportunity Mapping Update  Develop a map-based data tool to explore alignment of district-wide socio-economic indicators with school and student based data Healthy Kids Healthy Oakland

8 77 Opportunity Mapping Update Healthy Kids Healthy Oakland 2005-2009 Estimate Range: 29.8 to 30.4 (30.1-0.3) to (30.1+0.3) 2000 Estimate Range: 27.0 to 27.4 (27.2-0.2) to (27.2+0.2) Difference: 2.9 (30.1-27.2) Margin of Error (MOE). An MOE is the difference between an estimate and its upper or lower confidence bounds. Confidence bounds can be created by adding the MOE to the estimate (for the upper bound) and subtracting the MOE from the estimate (for the lower bound). All published ACS MOEs are based on a 90 percent confidence level. Standard Error. The standard error is a measure of the deviation of a sample estimate from the average of all possible samples. Statistical Significance. The determination of whether the difference between two estimates is not likely to be from random chance (sampling error) alone.

9 88 Opportunity Mapping Update Healthy Kids Healthy Oakland But, what about the Margin of Error? How significant is it? How does US Census Bureau deal with it? What is research community saying about it?
