1 Living The Great Adventure Part 9 “A Special Revelation” Matthew 17:1-13

3 What was it? It was something that happened to Jesus.(v.2a) There he was transfigured before them.

4 What was it? Transfigured = metamorpheo which means “transformed” or to be changed in form.

5 What was it? It revealed Jesus divinity. (v.2b) His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light.

6 Why did it happen? Jesus transfiguration was for the benefit of the disciples. For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father's glory with his angels,

7 Why did it happen? Jesus transfiguration was for the benefit of the disciples. and then he will reward each person according to what he has done.

15 Why did it happen? They will need this encouragement. Then the disciples understood that he was talking to them about John the Baptist.

16 Why did it happen? This was an opportunity for Jesus to help them understand something that they needed to understand. (vv.9-13) As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus instructed them,

17 Why did it happen? "Don't tell anyone what you have seen, until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead."

18 Why did it happen? The disciples asked him, "Why then do the teachers of the law say that Elijah must come first?"

19 Why did it happen? Jesus replied, "To be sure, Elijah comes and will restore all things. But I tell you, Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him,

20 Why did it happen? but have done to him everything they wished. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands."

21 Why did it happen? "Remember the law of my servant Moses, the decrees and laws I gave him at Horeb for all Israel.

22 Why did it happen? "See, I will send you the prophet Elijah before that great and dreadful day of the LORD comes. - Malachi 4:4-5

23 Why did it happen? He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers; or else I will come and strike the land with a curse.“ - Malachi 4:6

24 Why did it happen? Malachi 4:6 describes the work of the forerunner to Christ.

25 Why did it happen? And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to their children

27 Why did it happen? John the Baptist was the forerunner to Christ. understood that he was talking to them about John the Baptist.

28 Bottom Line: Here is the ninth secret for Living the Great Adventure we call the Christian life: Jesus is worthy of being the center of your life!

29 Just starting the journey? Whatever expectations we might have regarding religion – Jesus is superior and we must change to embrace that reality!

35 Be spiritually balanced "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!"

36 Following hard after Christ? Be growing in your desire for obedience When they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus.
