Wikis appear to have great potential in HE: they have potential to make it much easier for students, researchers and support staff to create, maintain and annotate resources. How Should Institutions Provide A Wiki Service? Many issues need answering: How do Wikis relate to other technologies? Are they sustainability? What about support? How do we evaluate & deploy Wikis - a single Wiki or multiple Wikis for multiple purposes? What about the benefits and dangers of using externally externally-hosted Wiki services? 5 A centre of expertise in digital information managementwww.ukoln.ac.uk 5 Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) Mobile devices & WiFi network may be used to support the aims of the workshop provided: Disruption to others is minimised You respect data protection, privacy & related issues Implementation: Permission to record must be granted by speakers No downloading of apps, videos, etc. during talks Reading email should be restricted to breaks You are responsible for security of your own devices (physical & network) In case of network difficulties, we may request that you disconnect from network

6 A centre of expertise in digital information managementwww.ukoln.ac.uk 6 W 3 : Wikis For Wiki Workshop Wikis provided for reporting on discussion groups: Keeps a digital record (better than flip charts; more open than PowerPoint) Allows you to look at others notes Two Wikis provided: WetPaint - see Wikipedia Wikalong (basic) (second is backup) To ease admin & enhance learning open and external Wikis used. Note have one Wiki reporters per group and keep backup of data to minimise dangers of data loss. Feel free to report back using Wiki as a prompt.

Development work (to be migrated to stable Web site) Intranets Anything you want:  Let’s not stifle creativity  Mistakes may be made – and that may be acceptable
