1 Who are the players in the Revolution? Mostly the good guys!

2 George Washington Virginia Commander of the Continental Army. Responsible for uniting the nation. Fought and defeated the British.

3 Thomas Jefferson Virginia Member of the Continental Congress. Writer of the Declaration of Independence.

4 Benjamin Franklin Pennsylvania Sent to France as an American Diplomat. Helped form alliances. Helped create many of the treaties after wars.

5 John Adams Massachusetts Agreed to represent the British soldiers on trial for killing five civilians in what became known as the Boston Massacre First Continental Congress member Helped revise the Declaration of Independence

6 Patrick Henry Virginia Lawyer Member of the Virginia House of Burgesses Famous for saying, “Give me liberty, or give me death!” He demanded resistance against the British King.

7 Thomas Paine Pennsylvania: friends with Ben Franklin Wrote the pamphlet Common Sense, it included: All men had the right to vote. Blasted the king, calling him “a Royal Brute” and saying monarchies are corrupt.

8 Samuel Adams Boston, Mass. Leader of Sons of Liberty (in Boston) A group that oppose British rule. In many cities throughout the colonies. Wrote several editorials to the newspapers giving the truth a little “spin”.

9 King George III (BOO!!!!!) Britain Defeated the French to gain control of North America. (French/Indian War) Ruled over the colonies. Tried to control the colonies with acts.

10 General Burgoyne Appointed by the King to capture Albany, New York. In order to end the rebellion. Thus restoring control back to the King. Obviously, He loses!!!!!!!!

11 General Cornwallis British Led the British successfully early on in the revolution. Loses the Battle of Yorktown to the Continental Army in 1781. Officially surrenders to George Washington ending the American Revolution.

12 Think about…. Question Section Give each player a nickname. What does that say about that state? What did you learn about some of these guys that you didn’t know? Assignment Create a poster for one of the people Include: real name, nickname, some sort of image (picture, symbol, etc.) neatness counts and in COLOR
