3 What is graffiti: The History ➲ The word graffiti is derived from the Italian word, graffiato, meaning “scratched” ➲ “Modern style” graffiti was first seen in the ancient Greek city of Ephesus which is located in modern-day Turkey ➲ Some say that this graffiti was an advertisement for prostitution ➲ The graffiti shows a handprint that looks like a hear as well as a footprint and a number.

4 What is graffiti: The History ➲ Ancient Romans produced a lot of graffiti ➲ When the volcano Vesuvius erupted, covering the entire city in lava, much of the city's graffiti was preserved. ➲ Their graffiti consisted primarily of Latin curses, magic spells, declarations of love, alphabets, political slogans and famous literary quotes.
