2 In Russia New Year has become the most joyful holiday of the year. It is celebrated on the 1-st of January. A natural or artificial New Year tree decorates the flats. It is glittering with glass ornaments and coloured lights. Russian children are waiting for Father Frost, followed by beautiful Snow Maiden. They usually look for presents early in the morning under the New Year tree. The adults see the New Year in and greet it with a glass of Champaign. They have fun all night long. People in Russia believe that the better you see the New Year in, the better it will be.

3 There is an interesting custom which is connected Happy New Year. People have got used for is live that the first person who has entered into the house in New Year, could bring good luck or bad luck. This person has got used for knock at a door right after midnight. The woman could bring bad luck ; thus, it was in the habit to be the person with a part of coal for warmth, piece bread for meal and a silver coin for riches. At some places people still follow this tradition of first footing.

4 No more champagne And the fireworks are through Here we are, me and you Feeling lost and feeling blue It's the end of the party And the morning seems so grey So unlike yesterday Now's the time for us to say... Happy New Year May we all have a vision now and then Of a world where every neighbour is a friend Happy new year Happy New Year May we all have our hopes, our will to try If we don't we might as well lay down and die You and I Sometimes I see How the brave new world arrives And I see how it thrives In the ashes of our lives Oh yes, man is a fool And he thinks he'll be okay Dragging on, feet of clay Never knowing he's astray Keeps on going anyway... Seems to me now That the dreams we had before Are all dead, nothing more Than confetti on the floor It's the end of a decade In another ten years time Who can say what we'll find What lies waiting down the line In the end of eighty - nine...
