5 NONE OF THE GLOBAL EDUCATION GOALS HAS BEEN ACHIEVED 57 MILLION CHILDREN ARE NOT IN SCHOOL

6 WELL-KNOWN EFFECTS OF EDUCATION  Education reduces poverty and boost jobs and growth.  Education improves people’s chances of a healthier life.  Education promotes healthy societies.

7 EDUCATION AFFECTS POVERTY LEVEL EFA Global Monitoring Report team calculations show that if all students in low income countries left school with basic reading skills, 171 million people could be lifted out of poverty.

8 WIDESPREAD TEACHER SHORTAGE Shikapur, Sind, Pakistan: With only 1 teacher for 100 students, a pupil sometimes stands in for the teacher.

9 QUALIFIED TEACHERS MUST BE A PRIORITY

10 STRATEGIES FOR IMPROVEMENT Strategy 1:Attract the best teachers Strategy 2:Improve teacher education so all children can learn Strategy 3:Get teachers where they are most needed Strategy 4:Provide incentives to retain the best teachers
