Introduction What animal is almost as slow as a sloth and is a mammal? A koala of course! Read this report and find out so many interesting things about where the koala lives, its adaptations, diseases, and dangers.

Habitat Hot tropics, and trees is where you can find koalas. Koalas used to be a very common sight till the Aborigines killed all of them in South Australia. Koalas used to be seen in South Australia but now you can only see them in Victoria, New South Whales, and Queensland. The most popular sight of koalas is in Mount Irvine New South Whales. One hundred years ago koalas lived in Bega. Koalas live in Gum trees and Eucalyptus trees. Those a few places you can find koalas.

Adaptations The koala lives for about eighteen years. It has a few adaptations. The koala has a very warm coat of fur. It keeps it warm during cold winter days. The hand of a koala is very different. It is made up of two parts. Two fingers on one side and three on the other. This hand is made for gripping trees. The koalas fur is also waterproof. The koala has sharp claws also made for gripping trees. These adaptations help the koala live a healthy life.

Diseases The koala may look healthy but diseases are infecting a lot of them. Diseases can be very dangerous to koalas. One disease is Chlamydia Psittaci. It is infecting 40% of koalas. This disease and one more called Periostotis which effects the bones of a skull is cutting off koalas life span. This is very sad because koalas should be a very common sight.

Dangers The koala is a very slow moving animal. That makes it’s life very dangerous. The koala has a lot predators such as pythons, falcons, hunters and a ton more. Forest fires can also effect their habitat. Hunters used to shoot koalas for their very warm fur. Now it is against the law. The python is a very fast moving animal which makes it very easy to just wrap itself around the koala and choke it until it dies. Koalas are almost always caught when they are in high trees. Koalas do have a lot of dangers but there are still a few koalas left.

Conclusion Know I hope that after reading this report you have learned about the koala’s habitat, adaptations, diseases and their dangers. Koalas are endangered but I hope that one day they become a common sight again.
