9.3 Multiplying Binomials

9.3 – Mult. Binomials Goals / “I can…”  Multiply binomials using FOIL  Multiply trinomials by binomials

9.3 – Mult. Binomials There are two common ways to multiply binomials. 1. FOIL Method 2. Stack (vertical) Method

9.3 – Mult. Binomials The FOIL Method FOIL  stands for First Outside Inside Last. (x + 2)(3x + 4)

9.3 – Mult. Binomials Try: (2y + 3)(y + 2)(4x + 2)(3x – 6)

9.3 – Mult. Binomials (r + 3)(2r + 6)

9.3 – Mult. Binomials (3x – 5)(2x + 7)

9.3 – Mult. Binomials You may choose either one to use!!!

9.3 – Mult. Binomials Trinomial and a binomial (3x – 2x + 3)(2x + 7) 2

9.3 – Mult. Binomials Simplify: (a – 8)(a - 9)

9.3 – Mult. Binomials (2x + 5)(x – 3)

9.3 – Mult. Binomials Simplify: (4x + x – 6)(2x – 3) 2

9.3 – Mult. Binomials shaded Find an expression for the AREA of the shaded region.  Remember: Area = Base x Height 5x + 8 x + 6 5x 6x + 2
