2 Why Deposit? The AHDS archives and provides access to digital resources: –The AHDS can make data available in a number of ways, through offline or portable media, web- accessible interfaces or FTP sites –The AHDS can ensure the long term preservation of your resource as software and hardware develops and current platforms become obsolete The AHDS can manage access and use of your resource (It’s a requirement of AHRB funding)

3 How to Deposit 1.Contact the AHDS! Guidelines for depositors can be found at http://www.ahds.ac.uk/dephow.htm 2.Fill in the forms: 1.Data and Documentation Transfer Form 2.License form 3.Send us the data, the documentation and the forms

4 AHDS Depositor License The AHDS has a non-exclusive license, which must be signed before a resource can be deposited –Special agreements can be negotiated for resources that have significant or long-term access restrictions Signing does not grant copyright to the AHDS, or remove it from the depositor Signing does allow the AHDS to: –Catalogue, enhance, validate and document your resource –Electronically store, translate, copy, or re-arrange the resource

5 AHDS Copyright Requirements To deposit data with the AHDS you must:- –Identify all copyright holders for all materials used in your resources - images, text, film, audio... –Gain written permission to deposit their materials with the AHDS and to make these materials available online –Negotiate with the AHDS any special requirements for access and preservation of the data

6 Copyright Help from the AHDS We CAN offer general help and advice through workshops, guides, presentations and individual enquiries We CAN supply details of other agencies who deal with copyright and associated IP rights We CAN NOT undertake rights clearance on behalf of individual projects We CAN NOT give detailed legal advice on this issue - should this be necessary, we advise you to approach a lawyer
