2 + What is voice? VOICE shows the writer's personality. The writing has a sound different from everyone else's. It contains feelings and emotions so that it does not sound like an encyclopedia article.

3 + How does it look like? The reader should be able to sense the sincerity and honesty of the writer. The writer should be writing from the heart. The language should bring the topic to life for the reader. The voice should be appropriate for the topic, purpose, and audience of the paper.

4 + How can I develop voice? In order to develop voice the writer must do the following: Add feeling and expression Speak directly to the reader (as if it were you the character) Connect with the reader Write for a purpose

5 + For instance… On Friday, during lunch time, a boy in 1 st grade got stuck in the bathroom. He started to knock on the door and fortunately 2 teacher assistants went to rescue him. Is this text fun or boring? Why?

6 + Let’s take a look at this 1 st grader telling the story to his teacher: Ms., Ms., guess what? Today some boy got stuck in the bathroom! He was yelling and yelling and no one came to see him. I think he was crying. The teachers came to take him out but they couldn’t because the door was stuck so they pushed the door but they still couldn’t!

7 + Homework Now look at the situation again. You are a Teacher Assistant. Tell the story to the student’s teacher.
