3 Pregnancy with increased risk for viral, bacterial, and parasitic infection Perinatal infection is associated with birth defects as well as adverse pregnancy outcomes, such as intrauterine growth restriction and preterm birth and developmental disabilities.

4 Aim determining the prevalence of perinatal infection comparing pregnancy outcome in roma and Romanian pregnant women

5 Material and methods Clinic of Obstetrics and Gynecology I and II, Hospital University of Targu-Mures, Romania, between August 1, 2012-December 31, 2013 252 pregnant women: 70 roma women and 182 Romanian women (control group) screening for bacterial carriage on admission Insemination sample from maternal cervix Risk factors for colonization were collected by a questionnaire

17 The prevalence of negative test result in the roma and the control group were 75 % and 81 %, respectively.

21 Conclusion However the majority of roma people had a low socioeconomic status with deficient pregnancy follow up, significant differences between the groups in the rates of the perinatal infection were not observed. Further clinical trials are needed to confirm these findings
