2 Dorothea Heath The Power of Vocabulary Instructions Session I Room 101 My name is Dorothea Heath and I have been in education for 23 years. In my past, I have taught grades K-6, worked as an Administrator, Project Manager, teacher trainer, and many other roles in Education. Currently, I am an ESL teacher at Elon Park Elementary School. Although I have many years of teaching experience, this is my first year teaching English Language Learners and it has been a phenomenal and exciting journey. HOME

3 Lara Harris Differentiation 101 Session I Room 102 Lara Harris has over 20 years experience in education and is very passionate about lesson design and delivery. Harris believes learning is most impactful and meaningful when it is related to the personal preferences and experiences of students. Over the years, she has developed and compiled a repertoire of strategies and resources that are effective for tailoring instruction to meet the individual needs of students. As a Title I Instructional Coach and Literacy Specialist, she has served adult learners for the last eight years. Her presentations are informative and engaging. HOME

I am a graduate of North Carolina A&T State University where I obtained a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. I am a 2010 National Board Certified Teacher Recipient and I am currently studying to obtain my master's degree in School Administration from the University of North Carolina Greensboro. My educational philosophy is "All Students can Learn and Achieve Success". HOME

5 Elizabeth Symons Empowering Students of Color During Literacy Session I Room 104 I am a 3rd grade teacher in Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools. With experience teaching in public schools in both Durham and Chapel Hill, I've started to focus the core of my teaching and learning around equity. I believe that building authentic relationships with my students is the most important aspect of my job. In my spare time, I enjoy hiking, reading, and practicing yoga. HOME

Mrs. Stackhouse has over twelve year’s experience and has worked as a classroom teacher, K-5 Math Facilitator, K-8 Curriculum Coach, administrator, and K-12 Professional Development Lead. She is passionate about the teaching and learning of mathematics and is the CEO of Creative Minds Consulting which provides innovative professional development to schools with an interest in building mathematically proficient students. Deborah, a 19 year veteran English teacher, works with 11th grade AP/Standard level students at Vance High School in Charlotte. Deborah, a 2012 NC Teaching Fellow, presented a public/private school collaborative teaching idea at TEDx Charlotte ED. Presently she is an action research participant with the Governor's Teacher Network. HOME

I have taught throughout the Charlotte area for five years. I am currently teaching 4th grade Math at Sugar Creek Charter School, and was selected as the Math Teacher of the Year. HOME
