2 P.L. 108-265, Section 105 Effective July 1, 2005 Household Applications Changes in Child Nutrition Program Law and Regulations Pennsylvania Department of Education, June 2005

3  All SFA’s are REQUIRED to use Household Applications for free and reduced price eligibility determination for children who attend school under the same Local Education Authority (LEA).  That means NO SINGLE CHILD APPLICATIONS.  Eligibility, once determined, is good for the school year for most students. Changes in Child Nutrition Program Law and Regulations Pennsylvania Department of Education, June 2005 Household Applications

4  Past practice has been to convert all income to a monthly amount using conversion factors.  Now, households with one source of income or if all sources are the same frequency; do not use the conversion factors. Compare the income to the appropriate frequency and household size Income Eligibility Guidelines (IEG) and make the eligibility determination. Changes in Child Nutrition Program Law and Regulations Pennsylvania Department of Education, June 2005 Income Conversion

5  If a household reports income sources from more than one frequency, you are now to calculate the income based upon annual income.  Multiply weekly income by 52, income every two weeks by 26, income received twice a month by 24, and income received monthly by 12.  Do not round the values from each conversion. Add the un-rounded converted values and compare the total to the IEG based upon annual income and household size.
