3 Air Food Water Energy Fiber (clothing) Labor (types of jobs/ careers) Infrastructure (streets, bridges, sewers…) Waste Disposal (recycling, one use items… Recreation (yacht, ATV, canoe) Components of an Ecological Footprint

4 Favorite Foods Common modes of transportation Favorite sport Favorite type of clothing Favorite appliance in the kitchen Favorite type of technology Let’s look at some of the things we use everyday.

5 We are going to make an ecological web of these items. Materials- Paper Large 1 sheet per group Group size 2-3 people pens, crayons,- markers… Let’s look at the impact these favorites have on the environment.

6 You will be given an item from our list to develop an ecological web. See example.

7 Also answer the following- a. List the factors that impact an ecological footprint and identify 2-3 components on your list b. What would be the consequences if the rest of the world adopted a U.S. lifestyle? c. What can we do to reduce impacts associated with resource consumption? When web is completed on the back of your paper identify 10 things that could be done to reduce the ecological impact of this favorite item.
