2
The major components of Information system are: Hardware Software Data People Computer network
3
hardware It is computer system on which information system resides and runs. Computer system has following components Input devices Processing unit Output devices Storage devices
4
Software Information system itself is software. Computer can not operate without software known as operating system (system software). Device drivers required to make additional hardware of computer like DVD ROM work. Utility Software is required to keeping computer working properly. That is tuning Security Software is required to keep computer system protected from external threats.
5
Data Data is required to produce information. Data is fed to computer using input devices Generally data is collected at the operational level of management.
6
People Information system is developed for people, to facilitate people to perform their jobs effectively. People input data to information system People take output produced by information system People give requirements for information system development Different people have different information requirements
7
Computer Network Computer Network is collection of computers. Computers of network can communicate with each other, share data/information with each other. If data from remote location is required, computer network is the most effective mechanism. Computers of the network can also be used to distribute processing of data at the same time.
