2  Meet 8A – Mr. Dabbs (Cluster Leader)  IPC Requirements – Dr. Fong  Algebra Requirements  Expectations  What’s happening in …  English  History  Math  Science

3  IPC is a high school science credit course that is comprised of one semester of Chemistry and one semester of Physics. ◦ NOTE: students will still need to take 4 additional years of science in high school for the Recommended and Distinguished Diploma Plans.  vs. Science 8 ◦ 8 th grade Science/Pre-AP Science introduces students to concepts of chemistry, physics, space science, Earth science, and ecosystems.  STAAR testing ◦ All Students take the 8 th grade Science STAAR exam!

4 Placement is based on the following:  7 th Grade Science and Math Grades  IPC Qualifier  IOWA Science results  Teacher Recommendation  Students must be enrolled in Algebra or Geometry Students who score low on the Earth/Space section of the IPC Qualifier, but qualify for IPC will be required to take a one semester Earth/Science as one of their electives.

5  Placement is based on the following:  Grades  Algebra Aptitude Test  STAAR test results  IOWA Math results  Teacher Recommendation  8 th grade skills test Students who are currently enrolled in Algebra this year, will automatically be enrolled for Geometry next year.

6  Bring all materials to class (students are not arriving even with the basics – pen, pencil, etc.)  Complete and submit work on time.  Absent work needs to be made up promptly upon return to school.  Maintain online usernames and passwords for online resources and online HW activities.  Respect – many students are becoming too comfortable, need to watch behavior, language, etc. Each student should put forth their best work and behavior at all times throughout the entire school year.

7  Test Date: Wednesday, April 22, 2015  Reading Tutorials continue for the next two weeks after school on Wednesday and Thursday.  Saturday STAAR Tutorials by invitation:  April 11 th, 9:00 am – 12 pm  April 18 th, 9:00 am -12 pm

8 POETRY UNIT & PROJECT STAAR READING TEST CLASS NOVEL END OF YEAR PROJECT

9  Please order one of the following books for your student by 4/20/2015 – two weeks from now.  It is recommended that they have their own copy as it will be best if they can write in their own copy of the novel.  Students may choose either of the these books to read.  GATHERING BLUE by Lois Lowry (recommended for girls).  BANNER IN THE SKY by James Ramsey Ullman (recommended for boys).  End of novel assignment…more details to come.
