1. Assignment Create at least (2) conflict webs for the different conflicts that are introduced in the first three chapters of the book. Keep in mind, this novel includes multiple conflicts; your job is to identify AT LEAST 2 conflicts. Brainstorm three possible solutions for each conflict (remember: there are some solutions that are better than others). There is an example of what this could look like on the next slide. The notes on the different conflicts that we discussed in class are also included.

2. Possibilities for Solutions Rikki- tikki vs. snakes He can fight them to seek control of the garden He can avoid them so that he is not a threat to them and they will leave him alone He can find a different place to live, where snakes are not such living in such close proximity

3. Conflict Review Remember the 4 types of conflicts? Character vs. Character : - I am fighting against someone else. Character vs. Nature – I am struggling against a storm, wolf, etc. Character vs. Society – I am struggling against a GROUP or THE WAY THE WORLD WORKS. Character vs. Self – I am struggling with a decision or something going on in my own brain. This is also known as internal conflict.

4. Conflict with some of the characters we’ve “met” this year Think of some of the characters we’ve met and their conflicts: Rikki vs. himself- he has to overcome his own fear to fight snakes and protect the humans and the other animals in the garden Kevin vs. himself-he struggles to be social with others; it is hard for me to move outside of himself Rikki- vs. the weather – a flood washed him away in the beginning of the story; without Teddy’s help, he may have died Rikki-tikki vs. the snakes – they both want control of the garden Kevin vs. his peers– they think he’s a nerd and an outcast
