HOOKE’S LAW

OBJECTIVE: 1.Determining the change of lengths of spring on the suspension of weights. 2.Confirming Hooke’s law and determining the spring constant.

THEORY Hooke's law of elasticity is states that the extension of a spring is in direct proportion with the load added to it as long as this load does not exceed the elastic limit.elasticity Hooke’s law hence is: F = D. ∆ L Where, F = force D = spring constant ∆L = displacement.

TOOLS: Spring Weights (50gm each) Laboratory Stand Measuring tape

STEPS : 1. Hang the spring on the laboratory stand. 2.Measure the length of the spring. 3.Hang 50gm weight on to the spring, and measure the change in its length. 4.Continue adding weights and measure the corresponding change in lengths.

DATA : Mass (m) Kg Force (F) N Length (L) m Displacement (x) m 0 0.05 0.10 0.15 0.20 0.25
