1 Why are links important to a website? Web Design Course

2 The World Wide WEB is the collection of connected web pages on the Internet. Links connect resources on the Internet. There are three kinds of links for a web designer to know.

3 Three (3) Kinds of Links A link that connects to an external different web page A link that generates an Email message A link that connects to an internal place within it’s own web page These links may be in the form of text or an image.

4 Steps for creating an external link? SEE SAMPLE VIDEOS AT THE END OF THE PRESENTATION! 1.Highlight the text (or select the image) you want to make a link 2.Type the full web address of where you want the audience to go when they click the link into the LINK box in the PROPERTIES panel

5 Steps for creating an Email link? SEE SAMPLE VIDEOS AT THE END OF THE PRESENTATION! 1.Highlight the text (or select the image) you want to make a link 2.Type mailto:”youraddress@email.com” into the LINK box in the PROPERTIES panel

6 Steps for creating an internal link? SEE SAMPLE VIDEOS AT THE END OF THE PRESENTATION! 1.Insert and name the Named Anchors in the page where you want the links to take the audience. 2.Highlight the text (or select the image) you want to make a link 3.Type #nameofanchor into the LINK box in the PROPERTIES panel These links are used on long web pages to prevent the user from having to scroll

7 Today’s assignment 1.Create a blank new page and type the words “Home” and “Page 2” at the top of the page 2.Highlight the word “Home” and type link1.html in the Link box of the Properties panel 3.Highlight the words “Page 2” and type p2.html in the Link box of the Properties panel 4.Save the page as link1.html into your WEBWORK folder 5.Change the background color of the page 6.Click File>Save As and change the name to p2.html 7.Download an image of an athlete or celebrity from the web and insert that image into p2.html 8.Click on the image and make it a link to a website related to the athlete or actor 9.Save p2.html 10.Preview the web page in a browser to make sure the links work 11.Upload the WEB folder to your web server NEXT TWO SLIDES HAVE SAMPLE VIDEOS
