3 Reasons to be drug free Not break the law Better concentration Make wiser decisions Reach full growth potential Save money Healthier appearance Better control over actions and feelings

4 Kicking the habit If a person becomes physically or psychologically addicted to a drug, the recovery process involves withdrawal. Withdrawal-the physical and psychological symptoms that occurs when someone stops using addictive substances. Depending on the drug used symptoms include: vomiting, headaches, aches and pains, sweating, and depression.

5 Getting help Support groups- group of people who share a common problem and work together to help one another cope and recover. Ex. NA,AA Drug treatment programs-trained experts who provide education and support who can help the user through the withdrawal period. Detoxification-the physical process of freeing the body of an addictive substance. “Detox”

6 Treatment centers for Detox Detox units- usually part of a hospital or other treatment center. Addicts remain under a doctors care while going through withdrawal Inpatient treatment centers-places where addicts stay for a month or more to fully concentrate on recovery. Outpatient treatment centers-places where addicts can get treatment for a few hours each day. They return home to their regular surroundings.
