1 How to treat others The bible says “Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law of the Prophets” (Matt 7:12) “Love your enemies” (Matt 5:44) “If someone says ‘I love God’ and hates his brother he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?” (1 John 4:20) Let’s make the statement he/she doesn’t deserve forgiveness.... Is this based on incomplete evidence? Do you know all the facts? Even if you don’t know the facts does that = permission not to love?....

2 Empathy... Listen and try to imagine the perspective of the offender. What might have been his motives? What his going on in his life right now? – maybe he is a victim trying to gain more victims? Accept the person, not the behaviour. Everybody makes mistakes...right? Think about your stupid decisions in life and how you wish you could turn back time.

3 More reasons why to forgive and love You can not change the past, you can only change the present. Who says revenge is for you?... I will repay says the Lord. You can defend yourself, and try to work out the situation, but NEVER take revenge into your own hands. Do you think that violence, or strategic evil plans will solve the situation? Have you not heard H.H Pope Shenouda say ‘violence leads only to more violence’. You think his opinion based on 30 years experience as Pope is invalid. “As we forgive those who trespass against us” It is an honour to be persecuted....the Saints went through more than you in strength and joy. Your mind and body will be put at ease once you have made all the effort to forgive and move on with your life. If you apologise and the person rejects your apology this becomes his problem. He will be constantly thinking about it until the day he dies, while you have forgotten what happened a long time ago.

4 Scenarios 1.Somebody swears at you. Be honest and tell me what you will do, or have done in the past 2.Somebody punches you. Be honest and tell me what you will do, or have done in the past. 3.Somebody punches/swears/teases/bullies you. After a short time this person shows remorse and apologises. What would you do? 4.Is it really not worth forgiving someone????
