2  Octet rule, in most chemical reactions, atoms tend to match the s and p electron configuration of the noble gasses which is the octet rule  Ion, a particle that is electrically charged (positive or negative); an atom or molecule or group that has lost or gained one or more electrons  Anion, is an negatively charged ion.  Cation, is a positively charged ion. 3 For nonmetals the greater the number of electrons already in the outer shell the more reactive that element will be. If a nonmetal has seven outer shell electrons it will only need to gain 1 electron to reach its octet. This nonmetal will be more reactive than a nonmetal that must gain two or more electrons If a nonmetal has 8 electrons already in the outer shell there they are apart of the noble gasses.

4  Lattice energy -is the energy that is released when a ionic bond are formed.  Crystal lattice- is a pattern that the crystals are formed.  Unit cell- the smallest type in a crystal lattice is called a unit cell.
