1 Passages That We Should Take Seriously, But Do We Really?
How Serious Are You About Your Salvation? Does It Show? Passages That We Should Take Seriously, But Do We Really?

2 Introduction This is a lesson that should cause us to consider our own salvation. Philippians 2:12 “So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling”.

3 Do We Fear God? Exodus 20:20 “Moses said to the people, ‘do not fear, for God has come to test you, that the fear of him may be before you so that you do not sin” Deuteronomy 5:29 “If only it would really be their desire to fear me and obey all my commandments in the future, so that it may go well with them and their descendants forever.

4 Do We Fear God? Ecclesiastes 12:13 “Fear God and keep His commandments, because this applies to every person”. What is involved in fearing God? Keeping His commandments. Leviticus 19:14; 19:30; 19:32; 25:17; 25:36; 25:43 Deuteronomy 28:58; 31:12-13 We are talking about reverential fear.

5 Do We Tremble At God’s Word?
Psalm 4:4 “Tremble with fear and do not sin! Meditate as you lie in bed, and repent of your ways” Psalm 96:9 “Worship the LORD in holy attire! Tremble before Him, all the earth!” Isaiah 32:11 “Tremble, you complacent ones! Shake with fear, you carefree ones! Strip off your clothes and expose yourselves – put sackcloth on your waist”. Our soul depends upon how we respond to God’s word, and that is no small matter.

6 “All Your Heart” ALL as opposed to some, most, partly
Deuteronomy 4:29; 26:16 Joshua 22:5 1 Samuel 12:20,24 Proverbs 3:5 Jeremiah 29:13 Mark 12:30 Do we really?

7 “Do Not Fall Short” Hebrews 12:15 “see to it that no one falls short of the grace of God……. Sure there will be those who reject God, but do not be the one that causes them to do so. Don’t set a bad example for them. Romans 3:23 : “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”. That is why we need salvation.

8 What Is Sin To Me? Different people might have different answers.
2 John 3:4 Sin is transgression of the Law. Sin is doing something God forbids. James 4:17 “He that knows the right thing to do, and does not do it, to him it is sin”. Sin is NOT doing what you know is right.

9 “…and such like” Galatians 5:21 “and such-like” or “things like these”. It is easy to make a list of specific sins that God has forbidden, But this is a generic that we must be very careful about. Some things are wrong even though they may not be specifically listed in the Bible.

10 Forget the past Philippians 3:13
Some things of our past we are proud of. But we cannot dwell in the past. We live in the here and now, and each day will bring a new here and now. The Ephesians were dwelling on their past accomplishments, but had lost their first love (Revelation 2:2-4).

11 Forget the past. Yes our past should be behind us, but we must never forget from whence we came. We were in sin and lost, but by the grace of God, we have been found and now live a new life. We should learn to appreciate our salvation, and not take it for granted.

12 Be Diligent Every passage that has these words really do scare me.
The meaning is “to make every effort” I fear that I have failed here, and probably everyone in this room has failed here. We could justify ourselves by claiming that there is just too much going on to make every effort towards our salvation, But………

13 Be Diligent To maintain a spirit of unity Ephesians 4:3
Do we do our best to keep unity in our congregation? To add to your faith 2 Peter 1:5 You do this and you will not stumble. Seeking God Hebrews 11:6 Serving in a leadership capacity Romans 12:8

14 Conclusion The more we study the Bible, the more we realize that we need to do better. Sure the grace of God comes to our rescue, but we cannot solely rely upon that grace. And are you going to push your luck in just how much of God’s grace you need. Romans 3:1-8 shall we sin, so that grace may abound? God forbid! We have to come through with effort in serving God and keeping His commandments.
