2 What you need to know Reasons why women were treated unfairly in society in the 1800s and early 1900s. Reasons why women were given the vote in 1918 – the role of the Suffragists, Suffragettes and WW1.

3 The unfair treatment of women Write down 5 pieces of evidence that women were treated unfairly in society in the 1800s.

4 The unfair treatment of women in the 1800s and early 1900s  Women had no vote  Women were paid less for doing the same job as men.  After getting married in many regards a women became her husbands property.  It was very difficult for a woman to divorce her husband.  After a divorce women had little access to children.  Education was thought of as unnecessary for most girls.  Middle class women were expected to leave their jobs after getting married.

9 The Representation of the People Acts 1918 and 1928 Representation of the People Act 1918 Women over 30 who were householders gained the vote. Representation of the People Act 1928 Women over 21 gained the vote making them equal to men.
