1
Biodiversity and the distribution of life on planet earth
2
Today we are learning about Biomes Biomes Regions of the planet with specific climate, fauna and flora. The global distribution of biomes is influenced by factors including temperature and rainfall
3
A biome is an area of the planet that can be classified according to its climate with the plants and animals that live in it. Temperature, rainfall, soil and the amount of light help determine what life exists in a biome.
4
A biome is different from an ecosystem. A biome can be made up of many ecosystems. A biome is a specific geographic area notable for the species living there. An ecosystem is the interaction of living and non living things in an environment.
5
Not all scientists classify biomes in the same way. Some scientists use detailed classifications and list many different biomes. Many maps have been produced to show biome distribution around the world.
7
Rainforest Deciduous forest Coniferous forest
8
Desert Desert Scrub
9
Grassland Savannah
10
Tundra Mountains
11
Mediterranean
12
Some use broad classifications and count as few as five biomes. For example: Aquatic Deserts Forests Grassland Tundra
14
You are going to find out more about these five biomes. Your teacher will explain how you will do this.
