Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI-508833 ARDA Workshop: 7 March 2005 2 Introduction Description of the testing process –The testing stages –Who does what –Physical location of test beds Organisation of the testing effort Goals, Priorities and Timelines Current status

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI-508833 ARDA Workshop: 7 March 2005 3 Description of the Testing Process (1) JRA1 Development test bed (gLite Prototype) Release of integration build (Friday) JRA1 Testing test bed Production service Certification test bed JRA1 Integration team Weekly releases + 1 week (soon to become less frequent) (includes updates to release notes + bug fixes) Pre-production service ARDA testing Deployment testing Functional testing Deployment testing (documentation, installation, configuration) Functional testing Stress/Load testing Testing against “real” applications Open to all registered users Not a “formal” test environment The Testing Stages Who Does What Bug reports

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI-508833 ARDA Workshop: 7 March 2005 4 Description of the Testing Process (2) CERN RAL NIKHEF CERN Looking into extending test bed to other sites. Sites will require 100% dedicated staff and resources. Initial roll-out to NIKHEF(?), PIC(?), CNAF(?), CERN Second phase roll-out to remaining sites. Physical Location of the Test Beds Release of integration build (Friday) JRA1 Testing test bed Production service Certification test bed JRA1 Integration team Weekly releases + 1 week Pre-production service JRA1 Development test bed (gLite Prototype)

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI-508833 ARDA Workshop: 7 March 2005 5 Organization of the Testing Effort Since mid February I have been co-ordinating the JRA1, SA1, NA4 and ARDA testing efforts. We are: The Test Group Daily morning meeting –status briefings from each group –Discussions on “hot” topics –minutes at http://egee-docs.web.cern.ch/egee-docs/list.php?dir=.\Testing\Meeting%20minutes\& http://egee-docs.web.cern.ch/egee-docs/list.php?dir=.\Testing\Meeting%20minutes\& Weekly status reports – http://egee-docs.web.cern.ch/egee-docs/list.php?dir=.\Testing\Testing%20Reports\& http://egee-docs.web.cern.ch/egee-docs/list.php?dir=.\Testing\Testing%20Reports\&

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI-508833 ARDA Workshop: 7 March 2005 6 Goals, Priorities and Timelines (1) #1 Goal: To have a working version of gLite on the pre-production service by the end of March 2005! (mid April now looks more likely) –Pre-production sites need to be ready for this. –The pre-production service will then be used to compare gLite to LCG-2 and identify any areas where improvements need to be made to the gLite middleware. Current Activates within The Test Group 1)To port the current LCG-2 certification test suite to gLite (by 23 March) The test cases will be as close as possible to those in the LCG-2 certification test suite. JRA1, SA1 and NA4 are all contributing to this effort. 2)Continue testing on the JRA1 test bed and Certification. 3)Writing functionality tests for VOMS and R-GMA. Tests are being written by INFN and RAL respectively. 4)To port the Site Functional Test suite to work with gLite.

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI-508833 ARDA Workshop: 7 March 2005 7 Goals, Priorities and Timelines (2) Release 1 of gLite due at end of March.

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI-508833 ARDA Workshop: 7 March 2005 8 Current Status A long way to go before deployment of gLite is as straightforward as deployment of LCG-2. –Currently no File Transfer Service and File Placement Service. –UI is far from production quality. –Takes 2-3 people in the Certification team 2-3 days to deploy all services. –No User Guide. Only very limited (and manual) testing possible on the Certification test bed at the moment. –Currently seeing approx. 50% failure rate for jobs.
