Problem Statement Overview of tasks Requirements for selection test

PROBLEM STATEMENT To design the body of the satellite such that it does not fail at any point of its lifetime OVERVIEW OF TASKS Study all load conditions on the satellite in the launch environment Study and quantify the orbital loads acting on the satellite Set design parameters of material, shape, critical dimensions, fasteners specifics etc Modeling of the satellite body and simulation under appropriate constraints Fabrication of body Testing for static and vibration loading

PROBLEM STATEMENT To formulate a thermal design such that every component is always maintained within its optimal operating temperature ranges OVERVIEW OF TASKS Fix critical temperature range for whole satellite and individual components Make a preliminary mathematical model and solve it analytically for average temperature distribution Simulate the satellite and all its heat transfer modes and validate results obtained Tweak parameters like putting different  values for certain areas or reducing/increasing conductivity at some junction May include cryogenic system design in many cases

Emissivity of solar cell- 0.83 Absorptivity of Aluminium- 0.2

REQUIREMENTS FOR SELECTION TEST Basic knowledge of heat transfer modes – conduction, convection, radiation Kinds of thermal control materials and their properties Kinds of orbits for satellites Good grasp of absorptivity, emissivity and conductivity concepts Brief idea of thermal loads in orbit Good computation / coding skills appreciated!! Go through our Requirements Capture Report and our Conceptual Design Report! Also, note the changes between the two.

Problem Statement Overview of tasks Requirements for selection test

PROBLEM STATEMENT Design reliable fail-safe mechanisms to accomplish all instances of relative motion between parts as required onboard the satellite OVERVIEW OF TASKS Deployment can include putting out antennae, unfolding solar panels, extending booms, unrolling tethers, ejection systems, propulsion systems etc Design and model the holding, release and pushing mechanisms Design feedback circuits to confirm the deployment Validate the model as being fail-safe to required extent Characterize the model as to how well it meets the constraints imposed upon it Fabricate the model integrated with its circuits and the body
