2 The Ancient Olympic Games The original Olympic Games began in the year 776 BC in Olympia in Ancient Greece. They happened every four years. The first games were only for men, and only competition was running. Then new sports such as wrestling and javelin throwing were introduced. The games were good practice for soldiers.
