 This digital painting was by Ferdi Rizkiyanto and is called Just Because You Can’t See it Doesn’t Mean it Isn’t There.

WWhat is your initial reaction? WWhat is the purpose, point of view, and intended audience? WWhat emotion does this convey? AAre there any appeals to ethos, logos, or pathos?

 At first my reaction was curiosity because it wanted to see what the little boy was looking at. But then it turned to guilt and sadness because pollution happening in our oceans and it is being swept under the “rug”.

 The purpose of this painting is to educate the audience of the growing problem of pollution in our oceans and to inspire them to try to change the course of humanity’s actions.

 The point of view is from the people who want to fix the environment. The intended audience is anyone who sees this painting and also the people who don’t really participate in cleaning up the environment.

 The mood of the painting is sadness due to the fact that there is trash polluting the oceans but it is also hopeful that we can find the pollution and fix the oceans.

 The light sky and waves can represent two things: what the world is portrayed as or the hope that humans can fix what we have started.  The kid represents the next generation that will rise up and care enough to pull back and look; and maybe fix the pollution.

 The dark coloring underneath the wave represents the ominous consequences that come because of today’s actions.  The wave being pulled back represents the metaphorical rug that people are trying to pull over the problem of pollution.

 Juxtaposition is used by putting the consequences of pollution next to the hope of a clean world; which is represented by the light colors right next to the dark colors.

 This painting appeals the ethos by showing how wrong it is to pollute earth and thus making us want to change it.

 This painting appeals to pathos by making us feel sad that the oceans are being polluted.
