Climate Weather – Day-to-day condition of Earth’s atmosphere at a particular time and place – What is today’s weather? Climate – Average, year-after-year conditions of temperature and precipitation in a region – What is Arizona’s climate?
Greenhouse Effect Greenhouse gases – carbon dioxide, methane, water vapor Greenhouse gases trap heat energy and keep Earth warm – like a blanket or glass in a greenhouse What would happen without these gases?
Latitude and Climate Climate temperature often depends on the amount of direct sunlight Earth has 3 main zones – Polar zones – near the poles Least direct sunlight – Tropical zones – near the equator Most direct sunlight – Temperate zones – in between the poles and equator Intermediate direct sunlight
