4 Location  Where is it? Why is it there? Where a place is seen/located on a map.

5 2 Types of Location

6 Absolute  A specific place on the Earth’s surface.  Absolute location is calculated using a grid surface.  We can find absolute location using longitude and latitude.  In other words, Absolute location is your global address.

7 Example  Nashville, TN’s coordinates ( 36° 9' 56" N / 86° 47' 3" W)

8 Relative Location  Where a place is located in relation to another place  Uses directional words to describe its position.  Cardinal & Intermediate directions

9 Tennessee  Cardinal Directions: TN is bordered by 8 states. Arkansas and Missouri to the West. Kentucky to the North. Virginia to the Northeast. North Carolina to the East. Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi to the South.  TN is East of Arkansas and Missouri  Intermediate Directions: TN is one of the Southeastern States.
