3 Geographic Location The tundra is located around the North Pole in the arctic cycle. For most of the year it is covered in snow. The layer of earth beneath the Tundra is frozen all year long. This is called the permafrost. The tundra is located around the North Pole in the arctic cycle. For most of the year it is covered in snow. 5 Climate The tundra is the coldest region in the world. Fierce winds blow while snow and ice cover the ground. Even the sea freezes as the temperature gets colder. The tundra receives less than 10 inches of precipitation yearly. The tundra has a short summer, the temperature only rises to about 50 degrees Fahrenheit. The awerage yearly temperature is only 10 or 20 degrees Fahrenheit. The tundra is the coldest region in the world. Fierce winds blow while snow and ice cover the ground. 11 Human Impact Humans have altered the Arctic Tundra through resource exploitation, fire management, and altered grazing regimes because of the constantly changing patterns of reindeer husbandry. Additionally, humans have been polluting these areas with chemicals, gases and oils which is threatening the lives of Arctic animals.
